Russell Moore was educated at St Andrews College, Grahamstown before going on to study mechanical engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand.
After five years in industry he was appointed Marketing Manager at Howden’s Attack Engineering in 1978. During those years he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree and later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Business Leadership.
He left the Howden Group in 1980 to take up a partnership in AMS Project Management Consultants.
In 1982 he founded the Tech Edge Group, which merged with Winches & Winders (Pty) Ltd in 1992.
In the intervening years, Russell has focused on expanding the technical expertise of the group. Through the acquisition of a specialist hydraulic engineering company with ground support expertise Tech Edge is now a specialist supplier to the aerospace industry, and is forging ahead with innovative new winding projects for the mining industry, both locally and abroad. Special projects include winding solutions for the hydro-electric industry and ship to shore loading,
Russell’s maxim is to ensure that the Tech Edge Group is big enough to offer the most up to date and professional engineering solutions, while being small enough to care about its customers, and the safety of all who use Tech Edge equipment.

Bannister joined Winches & Winders in June 2004 as a junior design engineer. He enjoyed the wide exposure which he received to all stages of engineering projects, from design and hydraulic fault finding to mechanical maintenance, winder audits, through to manufacturing and installations on site.
Bannister displayed his gifts for design, manufacturing and winder fabrication management, coupled with later experience in multi-disciplinary project management, and rose to become Engineering Manager. Popular with his colleagues and staff, as well as with our customers, he was successful in ensuring the best quality, and timeous performance possible.
While with DRA Consulting from 2010 to 2013, Bannister built up wide-ranging experience covering all types of winder installations, dealing on multiple levels with mining houses in Africa and internationally. He returned to the Tech Edge Group in 2013, and has contributed enormously through his dedication to our customers. His ethic of hard, innovative work and dedication to team building are pivotal to his success both as a leader and in upholding the very finest engineering practices.
He is a Member of the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineering.
Financial Director
B.Com.
Having travelled extensively and worked with Management Consultants in London before returning to her home town, Cape Town, Barbara started her own business there. Barbara sold the business when she moved to Johannesburg in 1978. After working in corporate marketing and administration, she started a business in 1982, which was franchised and very successful.
After selling the business in 1994, Barbara became Commercial & Financial Director at Winches & Winders, where she manages the financial health of the company, and her team provides support throughout the organisation in line with the vision, mission and values of the Tech Edge Group. Her goals include high levels of performance, strict internal governance, and effective support across the whole group, to ensure that customers get the very finest service and products.
Consultant, HR & Compliance

Keith is a retired Maj Gen, and former Chief of the South African Army Reserve and the South African Army Foundation.
He is a former Member of the Board of Armscor, a former Councillor of the University of Limpopo, and the first Chairman of the Limpopo Province Tourism Board (1995 – 1998). He is currently Chairman of the Development Trust of the big 5 Dinokeng Game Reserve, in Tshwane North, Gauteng Province.
In April 2018 he was awarded the National Order of Luthuli (Silver) for his contribution to a democratic South Africa.
He is a 50% shareholder in TeTech Projects, one of the companies in the Tech Edge Group, manufacturing ground air support equipment and bomb loaders, road markers and surface spray painters, and polyurethane spraying equipment, all manufactured to order.
He manages the HR and Compliance Section of the Tech Edge Group, ensuring compliance with the Codes of Best Practice, Employment Equity, and environment-friendly practices throughout the Group.
Mechanical Design Consultant
A native of Frankfurt, Richard studied and trained in Germany before immigrating to South Africa in 1967.
In 1970 he was offered a job with J.K. Fulton Winders (which today is Winches & Winders of the Tech Edge Group). He found to his delight that the management and staff at the company were open, positive, helpful and ready with assistance and information. He became head of the company’s large draughting department.
Richard says, “The positive environment released and kick-started my creative ability”.
Richard built upon his experience, training and theoretical studies with research into winding and hoisting in the mining industry. During a long career in mine winders he designed Lashing Gear and a range of single and double drum winders up to 5,6 metres in diameter, 2,2 metre diameter friction 4-drum stage winders, various rope tensioners, etc. Many of his designs were real “game changers”.
Richard is now a Mechanical Design Consultant for the Tech Edge Group.
He says, “I very much enjoy the positive environment here, where new ideas are appreciated – just as they were at J.K. Fulton, my first involvement with the company.”
Civil Engineering &
Project Consultant
After obtaining a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering from Wits Technicon in 1984 Fanie registered as Pr.Tech. Eng. with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
In 1991 he obtained a Masters Diploma in Technology, Civil Engineering from Pretoria Technicon.
He worked in the municipal environment where he was exposed to various levels of design, construction and management of municipal infrastructure. In his role as Contracts Manager for Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, he managed the construction of various projects, from planning, budgeting and execution to final completion, until 2012.
Over the next eight years, Fanie applied his extensive knowledge of, and valuable experience in, Project Management as Contracts Manager with Seletje Construction.
Fanie makes a key contribution, mentoring and monitoring on many aspects of our project management. He provides invaluable oversight of civil works on projects, given Tech Edge’s important turnkey role in winder installations.
